What is Content Editing

Content editing focuses on structural issues and continuity. We don't look for grammar mistakes, instead focusing on how your story works. These are some of the hardest elements for an author to spot and takes someone familiar with content editing to spot major issues.

Some of what we look for:

  • Continuity/Plot Gaps
  • POV/Tenses
  • Flow/Pacing
  • Is the story clear
  • Characterization/Voice
  • Plot Structure; and so much more.

*Some books need more work than others. Prices will be based on an analysis of need.

Can't my beta reader content edit?

In short, no. Often times beta readers are just simply that, readers. Other times they are writers, but either way, they aren't editors and there is a lot of time that goes into content editing that beta's won't want to invest.

I don't want a line edit, but I need someone to look over my work and check for mistakes before I publish?

Then you need a proofreader. A proofer will look for those last minute mistakes. Spelling, spacing, fonts, etc.

Will there still be mistakes? And will my book sell?

No one and no thing is perfect. Almost EVERY book has mistakes and flaws, so there is no way to guarantee perfection. The answer is most likely yes, there will be mistakes and book sales are never guaranteed.

How long will it take to have my book edited?

For 50 pages or less, we can have it to you in 5-7 days. All complete manuscripts will take a maximum of 30 days, with one reviewer.

What is Author Coaching?

Don't worry. Our experienced writing coach will contact you and compassionately show you techniques on how to develop stories, find your voice and create the best novel you can imagine. It's essentially a personalized writing class where your book is the homework and we will stick with you to the end...if you want.

What does a Book Promotion include?

Most blogs love a good promotional tour and all writers should love a blog that is willing to tout their book. We set up and execute an online book tour, where at least 10 (and up to 35) blogs will do a feature on your book. All promotional materials will be set up by us, as well as the handling of the tour schedule. Usually this involves an interview, a review of your manuscript, syndication of the tour, ad banners, book excerpt, media kit with your bio and photos, a giveaway the bloggers can enter and a gift for your readers via a contest. (Signed copy of the book or promo swag).

There are several different kinds of tours that we tailor it to fit your needs (cost and market) and target your demographic. This requires research and a tremendous amount of advanced work, so we ask that you contact us 3 months before you would like the tour to begin.

*All prices are based on length of tour, amount of work needed to execute, if you want to include Gliterary Girl Ads and social media blasts. Unlike several of the other promo sites, we cater specifically to your needs rather than setting package prices, because we work with you and your budget.

What is Web Analysis and Marketing?

Setting up a twitter and Facebook account might help you connect with friends and some others in the industry, but it won't get you major exposure. Our job is to make sure you are utilizing all tools available to build a solid platform. In order to accomplish this, we need to first, evaluate your online presence, then we make suggestions to fix any issues. We finish by setting you up, teaching the basics of use and guiding you toward a foundation to grow from.

Below we highlight some of what we do:

  • Focus on a target audience
  • Evaluation of online presence.

   Social Media

   Website

  • Provide a full list of suggestions including optimizing design.
  • Recommendations on how to increase traffic and build relationships
  • Social media setup: We set up and clean up all sites so they work properly and in your favor.
  • One month of social media networking. We do it with you. Every week we schedule daily posts for each site.

*This work requires a lot of evaluating and set up time, so the entire process can take up to two months, including the one month of social media networking.

Why should I pay for a second evaluator?

Two eyes are always better than one. Plus, you get different perspectives from two different professionals. You may like the suggestions of one over the other and maybe having two people suggest the same thing, will prove the issue is more important than you previously thought.

What is a Branding Consult?

An author is not a businesses...right? Wrong! Mistake number one is not treating yourself like a company. This requires a monetary investment, tremendous time and focus, but even more, it takes creating a brand and you are a writer...you don't have time for that. But we do.

Misconception #1: Your book is NOT your brand, you are. The book is the product, you are the brand. Our job is to make you look like a polished company selling bestsellers.

Misconception #2: My book is the best and it will sell itself. No it won't. If people don't see it, it won't sell and people won't look if the execution is sloppy.

Let us help you develop your brand. From photo recommendations, to figuring out your target audience, we will help you design your company. This consult also includes a discussion on what kind of author you want to be, bio design and what kind of publishing is right for your manuscript.

I love my Book Cover. I designed it myself!

And we can tell. As a company that also runs a publishing industry website that reviews hundreds of books a year, we can't stress enough how important book covers are to the value of your sales. Readers DO judge books by the covers and if yours looks homemade, it will be passed over no matter how fantastic the writing is.

Our service includes:

  • a review of your book summary so we get a feel for the story.
  • Assistance with the layout and design.
  • Assistance developing a blurb that pops.
  • Digital design of the cover by a movie industry graphic artist.
  • We will write your book blurb for an extra cost, otherwise are function is advisory.

My book is going to be featured in a Book Club, what do I give them to discuss? Is that even my job?

If you have looked on the back of many books (and we hope you have) you will notice many of them provide book club discussion questions. You don't need to be bogged down with gleaning that kind of information from your work, besides, you aren't usually the best judge of what should be included. But we are. We will read your manuscript and design a set of questions that will make for interesting book club discussions.
